The Secret to a Perfect Beach Body

Summer’s here already, and it’s time to strut your stuff on the beach. If instead, by some chance, you’re beating yourself up as to why you didn’t exercise a little harder or go on a diet a little sooner so you’d have the perfect beach body by now, it’s ok. There’s always a way! So lean in and pay attention!

1. Carbs, Begone!

Chill, it’s only temporary! The idea is to do away with carbs and shake your body into relying on other nutrients for energy. That’s when it’ll start burning fat. So enjoy your carbs on the days you work out, but on other days, eat little or none. Enjoy more vegetables, and proteins like eggs, fish, poultry and legumes instead, and have 6 small meals through the day instead of 3 regular ones.

2. Watch your Intake

Cut down on salt and foods rich in salt, like sushi. They hold water, giving you a bloated look. It’s the same with eating raw vegetables at night – especially beans, lentils and wheat. They take longer to digest and leave your stomach bloated and looking bigger. And this probably doesn’t require mention, but alcohol is a big no-no too, for the same reason. On the other hand, have probiotics. They reduce excess gas and bloating.

3. Keep Hydrated

Drink a minimum 8 glass of water a day to keep your metabolism buzzing, your skin glowing, and your body healthy. If you’re not hydrated, your body and muscles look clenched and listless. And no, water won’t cause you to bloat. It’ll reduce it. So, drink up!

4. Get Adequate Sleep

Beauty sleep isn’t overrated. You need at least 6-8 hours of sound sleep for your metabolism to gear up, for your food to get efficiently processed, for your muscle to grow and for your body to restore itself. Get adequate rest and watch the difference in the mirror the following morning!

5. Change Your Training Routine Regularly

Your body gets used to your exercise routine so that after a while, you stop seeing results. That’s when you’ve hit a plateau. So step things up every 30 to 60 days to push your body into working harder and getting stronger. The greater the intensity of your workouts, the better chance you have at muscle growth and a stronger and better physique.

6. Stress Less

Stress has a way of sneaking up on us and playing havoc with our systems. It dramatically affects the way we burn fat and gain muscle, through the increased levels of cortisol produced during stressful times. So before it can undo all your efforts in the gym, take a deep breath and de-stress. Do fun stuff, hang out with friends, play; whatever it takes to keep you cool and relaxed.

7. Mind Your Posture

Stand up straight. There! You look a few pounds lighter already! Never underestimate the power of good posture to make you look leaner.
